Pizzeria Mozza

We have discovered a fun and lively dining experience in Los Angeles you won't want to miss... Pizzeria Mozza.

Nancy Silverton, Mario Batali and Joseph Bastianich meld their prodigious talents to bring Pizzeria Mozza and Osteria Mozza to the heart of Los Angeles. With the devout commitment to product, environment and hospitality, the two unique but equally engaging concepts provide dynamic templates for displaying the group's profound passions.

Pizzeria Mozza is a bustling, urban, burst of flavor and color. Open noon to midnight, seven days a week, Pizzeria Mozza is a perfect atmosphere - whether it be a business lunch or late night snack. The wine bar provides a vibrant venue for sampling from a selection of 50 Italian wines at $50 and under, but don't forget about the ample offerings of salumi and pizza. An intimate private dining room is also available for group events and parties.

Lucky to score someone's canceled reservation, we tried out Pizzeria in early March 2009. As there were three of us, we ordered the top three pizzas (they are personal pizzas) and shared them. Appetizers are great too. Moderately priced, the three of us were served these three pizzas with their unique French bread for $49 before tip.

"Osteria Mozza," the more formal adjoining restaurant is approximately twice the price, but has rave reviews as well. Casual dress is accepted at Pizzeria Mozza,

Typically, reservations take a month to obtain, but you can always call the day of as we did and try to gain entry via a cancellation. For more information, check out their website here or via Mario Batali's website, here.

"Shutters on the Beach Hotel" and "One Pico"

One of our favorite getaways within Los Angeles is Shutters on the Beach Hotel. Specifically, we enjoy the restaurant called "One Pico." Sadly, we have not yet stayed overnight at the hotel, but it is on the CHRISTINASH agenda for sure!

One Pico is the perfect place to take family and friends for elegant celebrations. The food is amazing, the service impacable, and the views unforgettable. You might just even come across some of those well known Hollywood stars that treat Shutters as their own local getaway. On a recent brunch to celebrate Christina's 24th birthday, Martin Short was passing through. Numerous other "A-listers" frequent the establishment as well.

Whether it is a weekend brunch or an evening dinner date, add this to your "1,000 places to go before you kick the bucket" list. Learn more about Shutters and One Pico at their website, here.

Zuma Beach and Point Dume!

We have found our favorite beach getaway in the Los Angeles area and it is Malibu's Zuma Beach. And more specifically, we enjoy a private climb to Point Dume, an out of the way cove on the southern end of Zuma. For us it is about a 30 minute drive from the Hollywood Hills to Malibu Canyon off the 101. There, we enjoy great walks, perfect "time out" and when in the secluded cove, we feel like we have left the country.
